So you can get some idea of how your CD will sound, here are
some downloads showing what can be achieved both with decent original
vinyl, and with a poor original. In each case, there are before and
after samples of the same piece of music, one as recorded and one
as
cleaned up before recording to CD. The downloads are in .mp3 format for
reason of
download time - they are 0.25Mb each which is plenty for people on
dial-up. The actual recordings are saved as .wav files which is the
purest representation of the wave form. First, a crackly but otherwise decent vinyl original. 1. As Recorded During recording, a digital wave file is captured and displayed as a graphic image. The crackles are quite visible on these images - here are pictures of crackly and cleaned waves so that you can see what the background noise looks like.This is the crackly one: o..and this is the same music cleaned up: ![]() Now here are two samples where the original shows not only crackles, but also substantial background noise.
